Craft- Halloween Shower Curtain

IMG_0029

This was QUICK and easy to make and also in expensive

I bought 2 clear shower curtains at Walmart $5.00 Each

1 White shower curtain liner at the dollar store $1

1 Very small can of paint at Lowes (Red) $5

Total Spent $16 and I can save it and reuse since the curtain is not getting Wet or ruined by the shower

Yes this is my real bathroom.IMG_0028

I laid the shower curtain outside over my BBQ pit, you can use a table a fence a laundry line what ever you have.

Pour the paint into your hands and place hand prints, dragging them slightly down shower curtain for effect.  Then flick your fingers like you would do to dry your hands to make paint splatter.

Make them as bloody as you want or just do a little.

Let it dry over night.

When you hang it I place one clear curtain on each side of it, that way I had a liner in my tub and the actually curtain was out of the tub, I did that to make it last longer, it should last several seasons.

Hosting an AWESOME Dexter Party

dexter

We decided to host a Dexter party.  I typically go over the top so here are some ideas we used.  Many of these can be mixed up for Halloween Parties as well. Our Cocktail of the Night was “Blood Orange Bloody Mary”  blood orange bloody mary dinnerDinner was Ham Steaks with Over Easy Eggs and Tabasco Sauce Finally Dessert was “Camilla Best Key Lime Pie”key lime The last recipe we made was Candy “Blood Slides” blood slide Next we went to the Dollar store and got some random Body Parts. The Hardware Store for some painting drop cloths, red paint and tape Walmart for Red Yarn and Black Fabric We are set dexter party We wrapped the body Parts in Plastic and tape. We created a kill kit simply with some black fabric That with our slightly sick looking blood slides we looked pretty good. Of Course we needed a Kill room.  That is as easy as you think, some rolls of plastic from the painting section of Loews, $5 for 5 rolls. Simply cover the walls20130922-172925.jpg20130922-175823.jpg 20130922-172944.jpg Splatter analysis requires yarn and a simple music stand.  We got wall Putty (The kind you would use to hang posters)  Tack the yar to where you expect blood splatter to be and then bring all the yarn strands to one central location on the music stand, that would be your point of impact.  Cool huh?finger nails 20130922-173518.jpg 20130922-173540.jpg Lastly we needed a crime scene so with a cheap Shower Curtain Liner and a small can of red paint we created a psycho like murder scene for the bathroom.  (We plan to leave this hang for the Halloween holiday so we have a clear shower curtain protecting the painted one and a second shower liner behind it as well.  Yes this really is my bathroom. shower curtain Directions to make this, simply lay a shower curtain over a large table (I used me BBQ Pit and Fence)  Then pour paint in hands and rub them together.  First place hand prints and drag them slightly to make a more dramatic look.  When done simply fling the remaining paint on your hands towards the shower curtain, like you are drying them off, that will make the splatter effect.  Warning do not wear good clothes during this process it can be messy.

Of Course we are sporting our Dexter Henley shirts as well.

And what would be a kill room with our photos, we printed a few 14 of Dexters Kills to add effect kill a kill b kill c kill d kill e

In your WiLdEsT DrEaMs! The perfect home.

Do you ever day dream about a completely different life?

Maybe you have more money, are thinner, healthier, nicer, meaner, happier,  a better spouse, no spouse, a bigger home, a castle, married to a movie star, own your own business or live in a more exotic place.

Maybe you are more like me and think my life is really GOOD and I am really BLESSED but these “Super Cool” toys would be fun to have in my life!!!!!

So here are a few things that in my WiLdEsT DrEaMs it would be cool to have.

mason jar lamp

OK Not this one I think I could actually make myself an easy light fixture simply made of Christmas Lights and Mason Jars.

poolperfect pool

This is one of the most incredible smaller pools I have ever seen, look at the details it comes fully equipped with a Firepit, table and chairs, Jacuzzi/Hot Tub, waterfall, giant Tiki torch and Lounge area  I might NEVER get out!

stair well branches

I have spent a lot of time seriously contemplating this railing,  It is really beautiful and unique,  I think it could be dangerous for children or the clumsy and possibly a cleaning NIGHTMARE, but then again if I had a one that had something like this in it I am thinking cleaning it would be someone else’s job.

If organizing is your game, how about this unique twist on a utensil drawer?

utensil drawer

storage ceiling

SIMPLY BRILLANT!!!!!!!!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS IDEA!!!!  Off the floor out of the way!  This cannot be that hard either!

Let’s move out doors for a but, How about your own movie theater, think about the hours of entertainment this could be.

dream patio

Or how about this Patio?  It has something called phantom screens which can be retracted for the open air feel OR can be closed to create a barrier against insects as you wish.  This feature is surrounding this incredible Patio/Porch complete with fire place, lounging furniture and a beautiful built in grilling area

hidden screens

Everything I would ever need in a patio is right here, does it matter that this patio is larger than my yard?

This is a great twist to the fire pit it is called flaming glass.  If you enjoy snuggling up in front of the fireplace or fire pit but are less thrilled with the ashes, smoke and odor, an elegant alternative to firewood and gas logs exists. Fire glass produces more heat than real wood, and is also environmentally friendly. There is no smoke, it’s odorless and doesn’t produce ash. You are able to stay toasty warm without cutting down trees and the specially formulated glass crystals give off no toxic deposit.  fire glass pit

kitchen view

I LOVE a great kitchen, this one even comes with an incredible view, LOVE this window.

wow tubThis bathtub speaks for itself it might get me out of the kitchen.  Lets see I would run from room to room of my home if I could work all of these amazing pieces into my next home.  Hmmm it is missing one last thing let me think…

Oh YEAH I know what I still need…..

The perfect shower scene to deter guests and family members from wanting to stay too long….

So tell me which is your favorite WiLdEsT DrEaM piece?  Look for more coming soon to this blog near you.

Gardening Craft Project “Tower Pot”

flower pot art 2

The Supplies you will need are as follows: About $37 plus plants

12 inch Clay Pot $8.00

10 inch Clay Pot $6.00

8 inch Clay Pot $4.00

2 bags of top soil (I used one top soil and one miracle grow mix) Top Soil $1.5, Miracle Grow Soil $4.00

Starter plants to pot

Spray Paint (High Gloss) $4.00 (I used 3 different colors @ $3.00 each do $9.00)

Spray Paint Clear High Gloss $4.00

Start by simply painting the flower pots, do not paint the inside or the bottom so water can drain freely, just paint the outside and the top lip.

pot painting

This will take a few steps making sure it dries before adding an additional coat.

For these pots the Blue took only one coat while the White and Red took multiple coats (4)

Although I did not do it on these pots, this would be the time to adorn your pots with any additional design or stenciling you might want to do on it.  I am thinking it would look great with an Initial and or the address

Then spray 2 coats of the High Gloss clear, again making sure the pots dry before applying the next coat.

Now it is time to plant.

First fill the pots with your desired soil mix

Then stack them so you can visualize the current placement of your plants

(BE SURE TO PUT SOME STONES IN THE BOTTOM FOR PROPER DRAINAGE FIRST)

In this example I used 4 Geraniums

8 starter marigolds

One larger flowering bush I plan to later transplant to my yard

Simply water and enjoy your little piece of art work the rest of the season!

Inexpensive Beach Wedding Advice

I am not a wedding planner by any means.  I simply am a mother whose daughter told her she would like a beach wedding to be held 3 months after she made the announcement.  I live in St. Louis and have never even been to Gulf Shores in my life.  So I did what most people would do, I went to the internet for advice.  Strangely enough I could not find ONE reasonable suggestion for how to do this on a budget.  Instead my searches netted me many companies who would “host” my beach wedding.

So I gave them a list of what I wanted, very simple, no chairs maybe 30 people would be there, 6 tiki torches and possibly rose petals in the sand.  I received my estimate via email $1250.00.  I about choked, for a 30 min ceremony this wasnt even the reception!!!!!!!  I asked for a detailed estimate and when I looked at it I found to “USE” their Tiki Torches the cost was $25 each.  $25??????  EACH?  I could buy them for $3.00.  I asked if I could provide any of my own decorations and I was told NO.  “Because of the oil spill the Gulf is VERY particular about what is used on the beach”.  In hindsight I know this to be for the most part a LIE!

Frustrated with the costs and the lack of information I decided I can do this on my own, If we can figure it out so can you, here is what we did.

We had the wedding on Cotton Bayou Beach which is beautiful, no charge for marking, easy to find.  The cost was a $100 beach wedding permit

At the last minute we rented some chairs from Kents rental, we rented 18 chairs knowing some of our guests would have to stand the cost was roughly $190 ($75.00 of that was delivery charge) these chairs are pretty small and easy to manuever if I had to do it again I would have just picked them up.

Beach decorations included 6 decorated Tiki Torches, a small table for the items needed in the sand ceremony, brightly colored parasols to match the color palate.  We also had a large dish of shells for the shell ceremony.   I will explain these 2 ceremonies later.

Now for the reception, we looked into halls and the cost of having a bar, food and a hall was also more than a single mom of 6 could afford.  So I started looking for homes that would allow a wedding.  I found pretty quick the larger homes would not allow weddings, and since the wedding was going to be on a beach I asked if I could have a cocktail party of 30 guests.  The answer was YES, but due to zoning no more than 16 people in the house at one time (hmmmmmm uhhhh ok)

We scoured VRBO.com, meyerre.com and kaiser real estate and found a magnificent home, perfect for entertaining with a huge patio and 3 balconies, plenty of room for guests outside.  This house cost $4300.00 a week.  Now before you hyper ventilate think about it.  This was my biggest cost.

In order to save money we enlisted friends to help with the offer if they could stay in the house with us free if they would  help with the wedding, one couple set up the beach wedding and helped in the background make everything work smoothly while we were busy with the wedding, one was a family friend who is an amateur photographer PERFECT, not only did we get wedding photos she was with us all weekend to take candid shots and a friend who is a licensed officiate for the wedding.  No extra cost here for those pieces.  I still had several bedrooms left to let family stay and have them pay for the couple of days they stayed to help off set the cost.

The house was perfect for entertaining, of course we didn’t know for sure until we arrived, it ends up it was a million dollar home in a private island subdivision where several celebs are rumored to live, no one gets on the island without an invite so it was an added treat for our guests who were familiar with the mysterious island.

We had our own dock, a beautiful master bathroom for the bride and her 3 sisters to easily fit while the primped for the wedding, great photos in there too.  We added a few well placed white christmas lights and candles, a bunch of flamingos and walla a wedding all for under $6000 including food (some catered and some we made the cake was catered and liquor (we had every kind of liquor available)

Shell and Sand Ceremony, 2 of the nicest things were these ceremonies, the sand ceremony basically is 2 jars of sand different colors and one larger empty jar (I bought mine at hobby lobby but you can find them all over the internet)  Bride and groom take turns saying vows as they pour some of the sand from their jar to the shared jar.  They pour one at a time so that the sand i layered in a way that is original and can never be duplicated.

The Shell ceremony we did it a little different than I have read, at the end of the ceremony the officiate announced the bride and groom and asked each guest come forward to greet them and receive a shell.  With this shell they were to walk to the beach and think of a wish for the couple and once the couple arrived at the beach we would all throw our shells at one time allowing the ripples to connect and intertwine our well wishes.  This was soooo awesome.  We all threw at once see the photo below.

So you do not have to have a fortune or need to live in the gulf or need a wedding planner to do all this for you.  A wedding can be had on the beach with a nice reception without these companies taking advantage of you.

Other tips

pre-made bouquets at hobby lobby $15 each

Tiki torches $6.00 for 2

Silk flowers from the dollar store for decorating

plain white christmas lights
