Westgate Branson – Nightmare Travel

We are always looking to establish new traditions with our families, hopefully, traditions that everyone loves so much they look forward to.

This year we thought a mystery back to school trip for all grandchildren 10 or older might be the ticket.  Our hope was a mystery train ride somewhere but the pickings are pretty slim for places to take a train from St Louis so instead, we opted to spend more money than we had budgeted to go to Branson.  We found what was the perfect little resort for grandparents with one grandchild in tow and a little dog.  Westgate Woods Resort. (Our 5-year-old cockapoo weighs 20lbs.)

We booked it on hotels.com because it seemed to be the best way to see all the area hotels that were pet-friendly and had a separate bedroom.  Here are the photos

WE WERE SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!

We booked dinner at the Dixie Stampede and ordered train tickets in advance.

When we arrived on 8/7/2017 I went in to check us in.  I was told I had to pay a $170 pet deposit.  I explained no that when I booked I paid all fees and the $170 was never a part of this agreement. (I had already paid for the rental and had my granddaughter sitting in the car with a dog, what was I going to do?  She went on to explain this is to thoroughly clean the room in case the next person staying there had allergies.  Reluctantly with no other options, I paid it.  I later realized it was also NON-REFUNDABLE!!

They directed me to some other person to go pick up my key, then that person escorted me to a big desk with a man behind it who proceeded to try to offer me “Free show tickets” if of course, I would sit thru a timeshare presentation.  I explained I already paid for my tickets before I came and I had no desire to buy a timeshare.  He was pretty pushy, offering me $100 in cash,  but I left just the same.

So off I went to my room……

I was MORE than a little miffed to see EVERY inch of flooring was simply final faux wood and the sofa was leather.  So THIS is what I paid a $170 pet cleaning fee for? REALLY?

I was further stunned when I saw my amazing view out the window.

We were in a hurry to make it to the show so I ran in and dropped my bag so we wouldn’t be late.  I was stunned to see my bedroom include a piece of random wood as the headboard.

This photo is taken right before we left, the bed was made when we arrived.

Off we went to the Dixie Stampede and then back to our “Home away from home” to relax play games and watch TV.  This was the first time I got to take a really good look at this unit and was completely grossed out.  Now keep in mind while viewing these photos I only stayed here 2 nights. and remember I was FORCED at check-in to pay a $170 NON-REFUNDABLE pet fee.

The bathroom, the chair we were supposed to sit and eat dinner on OMG it was DISGUSTING! Bugs in the light, this unit has NEVER been cleaned or at least for a long time and they wanted ANOTHER $170 when they didn’t even clean the unit they put us in?  The kennel my DOG sleeps in is cleaner than this room!!!!!

While exploring the next day it became clear they put us in a unit that is in a building where no one else is staying and is under renovation.  The common hallway where the snack and soda machine are kept was filled with abandoned furniture and even filthier than our room.

The rooms facing the parking lot had no curtains and clearly were having work done

The staff was parking in the parking lot for this building leaving us to park pretty far away from our unit,  This happened EVERY day and the cars sat there all day long.  We could watch the staff get out of the car and walk over to work, there is no doubt this was not other guests.

Honestly, we were miserable in our room but kept busy doing things elsewhere so we didn’t have to be in the room.  When we left I felt filthy, I washed even the clothes I didn’t wear and aired out my suitcase.  I would NEVER recommend staying at Westgate Woods in Branson.

Car SCAM – Don’t be the victim

car scam alert.jpg

Looking for a used car?

Find one that is a GREAT deal?

So did I, luckily I took the time to do a little research now I am going to share that with you.  When inquiring about a car i found on cars.com if a car was still available I got this response from someone claiming to be Daniel Gilliam  (danielgilliam239@gmail.com)

“Hello,
First, a few words about this 2005 Nissan Frontier SE is in perfect working condition, with nothing mechanically wrong – like new! This vehicle has 145,300 miles, used just to cruise. No accident history, clear title, no dents or dings and no scratches. Transmission type: Automatic. If you decide to buy it, you’ll receive all the papers, owner manual, keys, a buy-sell contract already signed by me and the clear title.
I have a low price ($2,500), because I want to sell it before August 15th. The reason for selling is that I am in U.S. Air Force part of a emergency medical team and my unit will be sent back oversea to replace and help the troops scheduled to come home this year, and I don’t want it get old in a storage garage for 18 month
If you’re interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your: Full Name and Shipping Address, to open a case with eBay. They will contact you to explain the entire procedure. The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the vehicle. eBay buyer protection we are both 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
Hope to hear from you soon
U.S. Air Force  Daniel Giliam”
In case you weren’t sure, THIS is where this landed on the BULL$HIT scale

Here was my response:
“You should be ashamed of yourself for impersonating someone who is serving our country to scam someone out of their money.  You might WIN with this scam with some poor person who doesn’t know better but KARMA has a funny way of coming around for people like you and when it doesn’t, when that next bad thing happens to you or yours, be it money, sickness or even untimely death remember you brought it on yourself by hurting others.”
We can laugh and joke about this but these guys/girls are doing this because it works!  They steal someones money and they are laughing at us all the way to the bank.
car scam honda.jpg
They hide it many ways.
Look at Glenda Pearson a seemingly normal facebook user posts this for her “mom”  so by the way find her on Facebook because she is also a SCAMMER!
In my search for a car a friend sent me a link from a facebook.com group she has purchased several cars from successfully.  I quickly emailed the person to get the info, here is the email I got back from her.

Hi, like I said in my first email, I moved to Omaha, NE to my sister. The car is with me, and it’s ready to be delivered to its next owner. I am responsible only for the shipping. I am not involved in the payment process. Payment is between you and eBay. I get paid only after you receive the car and agree to its condition. If you don’t like the car, eBay will fully refund you and I will get the car back. I am an eBay member and using this service you will get a 7 days testing period after delivery. During that 7 days testing period I will not be getting any money from eBay. If you are interested and you want to review the eBay terms, please email me your info so I can fill out the form on eBay. I need your name and an address where you want the car delivered. Once I have it, I will contact eBay and they will send you all the details on how this works.

Again someone playing with a buyer, telling a sad tale of my loss is your gain.  I almost fell for this one hook line and sinker until I google (probably much like you) car scam.
My hope is this post will help someone like me to avoid being taken advantage of.  Please share it with the people you care about and feel free to comment the names and email addresses of anyone YOU find who is playing this scam to tie them to this fraudulent scam.
Stay safe out there everyone!

GOFUNDME Revolution – when is enough enough?

I have seen this posted and a lot of VERY hateful comments.  Here’s my 2 cents.  She cancelled her wedding out of respect for those killed AND because frankly it was not the time for a family event.

These places aren’t gonna refund her money.  She is a victim here and the one who gave up his name so the police could stop him from hurting anyone else.

FOUR days before her wedding she had to come to the realization that her brother, the man she grew up with, murdered 9 human beings, IN CHURCH!  Can you even imagine what that must feel like?  Do you know what that does to a family?  Do you know the guilt a family holds for acts like this?

I do!

My brother is a murderer!  In 1977 he stabbed someone 35 times and that person died, and what happened to our family after that was something no one should ever live through.  That guilt followed both my mother and father until the day they died.  Some people know this part of my life, others do not.  But this isn’t about me, this is about a young girl, who was trying to bring something normal back to their lives that will NEVER be the same again.

So poor young girl, trying to start new life, prob doesn’t have much money to start probably is struggling financially to try to salvage what will always be tied to a horrendous act.   I say leave the poor girl alone!  She did nothing wrong, her parents did not do this either.  Her brother did this!  He pulled the trigger, he killed these people, he killed them in their house of worship, a place that should have been a safe place.

On another note!  WTH with gofundme?  Number one you do NOT get all the money you raise, gofundme takes more than 5%!  Let’s call this what it is, gofundme is raking it in.  They are not giving it back to the family of the cancer victim!   Have you actually been to that site ever?  Hundreds and thousands of pages for people with hands out.  Not working for a living, not opening lemonade stands on corners to make money, not selling personal possessions to raise capital, but begging!  Hoping their photo and story will tug at your heart strings to give!

And YOU!  The media!  You go to these families and say things like, we have had calls at the station how to donate to you, you should start a gofundme page.  What happened to well meaning family members openinga bank acct when there was a need?  A place for donations, YOU are encouraging this none sense!  And then you blast it all over the media when you see this poor girl usng it?  What in the heck is wrong with you people?

Here is how much money gofundme is raking in.

Ok but back to the point of this biog

I think this young lady had some poor judgement putting her name out there for this in light of what happened, but I don’t think this makes her a horrible person.  And I don’t think she deserves the pure unadulterated hate being directed towards her.

I don’t think she was trying to get something FREE and take advantage of the situation.  Here s what the go fund me page actually said….

I think she is a devastated young lady who had the greatest day of her life, one she planned, saved and paid for ripped out from under her by a man filled with hatred and was trying to make some way to take it back and find that moment of joy again in her life.

She has my prayers for peace.

As for gofundme, I have a personal standard never to support anything driven by that site.  If there is someone I am moved to donate too I will find another way.

You might not like what I have to say, but it is just my 2 cents

Is the deal too good to be true? YES

moolala

There are many shopping sites out there today who provide you deals on everything from dinner to diamonds.  It seems like there was Groupon and then suddenly there were 100’s of them.

I have bought from several of them over the years, mostly without incident.  I want to tell you about one to be sure to avoid, I am certain there are others so feel free to post your stories here as well.

Moolala is yet another one of those sales sites emailing constantly about the deals they have that are unbelievable.  Thing is the items that they have to sell are JUNK, TRASH!  They are rarely worth the price you pay and certainly are NOT worth the price they claim the item is valued at.

Look carefully at any photos and descriptions and then JUST SAY NO!

One recent story I personally encountered was on an items they called LED Starry Sky Projection Lamp.  The idea behind this item was it was a lamp that lit your ceiling with a TRUE rendition of the constellations, you could even personalize it by turning it to a selected month.  I thought this would be the perfect night light for the grand children who were eating us out of house and home on the cost of flash light batteries.  Finally a lamp with enough light to make them feel better and no more batteries.

Screen Shot 2014-02-16 at 3.32.18 PM

Here is the link to all the photos of this deal, note the photo that shows where the power cord is plugged in. http://www.moolala.com/deals/id/L9P8ARV

Or so I thought… Silly me for thinking a lamp came with a plug.  When it arrived in its cheap little almost non-existent box I saw the hole for where you plug it in but no plug.  It also had a place for batteries.  Anxious to use it I popped in the batteries.  The entire thing kept falling a part in my hand but still I thought the light part was cool for the kids.  I emailed the company asking them to please send me the missing plug.  I got a guy name Wyatt.

Wyatt asked me what the item was and asked me what I was missing, asked me where they needed to mail it even.  I asked him why he needed my address I mean you shipped it to me in the first place, but ok I complied.  Later I get an email saying it dod not come with a plug.  I said it doesn’t come with a plug?  Then I want a refund please send me a paid return item tag.  I went on to say they item was not what I expected and it should have come with a plug.  He replied, what made you think it had a plug, where does it say it has a plug?  I replied IT IS A LAMP, LAMP IMPLIES PLUG!

He told me I was out of luck and surely they do not care about my little $9.00 I paid.  He said it is up to the vendor who sold the item.  WHAT you do not back up the products you advertise?

The $9.00 really in’t the point.  The point is customer service, the point is happy customers, the point is selling items that are not junk.  It is really sad today that there are companies like this out there doing business and praying on unsuspecting customers like myself.  Sure my $9.00 isn’t much but multiply that number by the thousands of buyers they have and this quickly amounts to BIG MONEY.

I caution you before you use any of these online shopping sites to do a quick search on them  I usually try the company name and the words ripp off or fraud, that quickly pulls up unhappy customers.  Check Angies List and the Ripp Off Report, you can check the BBB (Who gave them an F rating) too but I have found that site to be pretty ineffective.

Amazon on the other hand has been stellar about rectifying problems immediately even when it is dealing with another vendor who is on their site.

Why Does MLB Black Out Games

Like many people I work 9-5.  So I am really at a disadvantage when the Post Season hits and I cannot watch the game on my pc at the office.  I subscribed to MLB.tv so I could watch it on my iPad or AppleTV only to find that it was blacked out.  In fact all games after 1:30 are blacked out.

apple tv mlb

Is this a way for MLB to make more money or what?

Some of us cannot take a half day off work for the game nor do we have the channel they sold the rights to in our offices.  So what are we to do?

Why did I pay the $24 price for post-season if I cannot watch it?

VERY DISSAPPOINTED

Take Control when Contractors Do you WRONG!

See Updates on the bottom of this Blog Post

bid close up

So my 89 year old Dad and I needed some Tuck pointing work

We went out and got bids for the work to be done and selected a contractor.  My dad and I live across the street from each other so this would be easy one stop job for them.  We put down the 1/2 deposit AND I told Terry J Marler of Marler and Sons (The guy we met with for the bid) I would be leaving town and hopefully he could get it done before or after my trip.SKMBT_C36413101411120_0001

While I was gone he completed the work, there was no one to really check the work as my father walks with a walker and does not get around very well.

Terry showed the work to my 20 year old daughter and thought that was adequate.

Mean while my father was told that the work that he needed was not bid correctly because he did not notice how bad it was.  Now it is chimney work at this house, clearly visible to the naked eye, is this not why you get a bid?  Ok it is not always that easy but the charge was $1000 MORE for my dads house then bid.  That is crazy in and of itself.  But my dad did NOT complain instead he paid the bill.

When I returned home I saw the work and was very disappointed.  I personally called and talked to Terry J Marler as did my father.  Terry told me he would personally come to my home and look at the work and talk to me on Monday AM.

Here is the list on the bid of what was to be done

This is my back step they were to fix

Here is my front porch step they were to waterproof, FYI that off colored concrete was NOT there when I left town!

That Monday however 2 workman showed, I asked them if they were her to fix what was wrong, one of the workman said to me, “No we are just here to pick up our form from the back yard for the step.”  I said, that is not a form in the back yard, that is a piece of board and my landscape rocks.  He chuckled and said “Yep, that is what we call a form.”

Days, weeks passed no Terry.

So I emailed

NO RESPONSE

I decided the Better Business Bureau might be able to help me so I filed a complaint.

bbblogo

I was stunned to get a response from the Better Business Bureau that the company I complained about had responded, The BBB thought their response was adequate AND closed the case.  That I could respond but they would not re-open the case unless there was new information.  WHAT NEW INFORMATION could you get?  My garage fell down??????  The response was a LIE!

I sent the BBB the SAME photos you are viewing here, actually I took a few of these photos this morning AFTER the BBB closing my case!!!!!!

marler own words

ALL of the Photos included in this blog were taken 10/14 on my iPhone

So if they (Marler) wrote on Oct 11 in the response to the BBB see line #2 “we went back out and completed, our company owner inspected then called customer to inform it was done told her if anything else needed please contact us.”

NOW YOU TELL ME,  Those photos are what Marler & Sons OWNER deem “completed and inspected”. REALLY!!!!!????  WHO IS WRONG HERE?

UPDATE 10/15/2013 Went to Missouri Attorney General site and found 3 complaints against Marler & Sons, 2 in the past 30 days that are unresolved!  Search Marler Here http://www.consumer.ago.mo.gov/search/complaintSearch.cgi

ALSO UPDATE – Employee Stephanie Gore decided to engage on Facebook tonight with RE/MAX Slander and attacks.  Here is the facebook page of this business should you choose to check it out, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tuckpointing-and-MasonryCom/241019008975.  Photos of the Facebook page conversation to follow soon.

Update July 2015– NOW the BBB is warning consumers about Marler!  I give the BBB an F for waiting almost 3 years.  Clearly as you see in the letter from the BBB they were not warning consumers when I compared.  Well maybe now we will see some justice.

The Senseless Death of a Beautiful Girl- Tragic Death of Gia Allemand is a lesson to us All

gia 6I am not much of a reality show kinda girl.  The drama, gossip and back stabbing that most of them have going on is simply not something I choose to bring into my life.

So I saw the story of Reality show hopeful  ‘Bachelor’ Star Gia Allemand Dying and although I didn’t know her thought, what a shame, such a beautiful young woman.  Then I read the articlesgia 1

29 year old Allemand died after a failed suicide attempt in New Orleans.  Her boyfriend (NBA Star Ryan Anderson) found her and called 911.  She had loss of brain and organ function so therefore the family ceased life support.

Why was such a beautiful young girl plagued with so many insecurities?  Why did this beautiful young lady have a “Full Facial Rebuild” before appearing on the bachelor.

Women, by nature, are very self-critical about their looks.   I can prove this, just look at all the big business out there, diet plans, cosmetic surgery, make up, hair products and services, the list goes on and on and on.

Let’s be realistic it is everywhere, blame it on Barbie, Blame it on TV and the movies, blame it on men, then once you are done blaming someone, let it go and move on.  This isn’t gonna change!  Ladies Listen to this, whether you are tall or short, fat or skinny, blonde or brunette it doesn’t matter.  The old cliché is true, beauty comes from within.  Just be the lovable YOU without worrying about where you are positioned with others.

gia 2

If someone doesn’t like you for how you look you have to simply let that go, it is out of your control and instead gravitate to the people who are sincere and authentic and just like you for who you are.

Sure lots of people out there are superficial, and all of us have a look or body type that we prefer, if you do not have that look or body type for that person move on.

gia as girl

Gia Showing Childhood Photos to Ellen, explaining her lips were NOT augmented

gia in 2010

Gia in 2010 before the “Full Facial Rebuild” Still looks AMAZING!

Ask yourself these questions

  • What are you insecure about?
  • Who are you trying to please and why?

gia 3

Now do the following

  • Acknowledge you are not perfect and that, that is ok.
  • When those insecure thoughts start, focus on something different pick anything from the room to focus on.
  • Note what brings those insecure thoughts to the surface, what the triggers are and try to reset them, just like resting the trigger that makes us eat or smoke.
  • Do not worry about what others think of you, odds are they are worrying what you think of them.
  • Stay away from negative people, they will suck the life out of you.  It is an anchor you can NOT break free from.
  • It is impossible for you to be responsible for other peoples happiness and impossible for other people to be responsible for yours, just live and be happy.

In Gia’s case her issues went so deep that in the end no one could save her.  Pay attention to the people you love and surround yourself with, depression and lack of self worth is a terrible burden to many, so terrible that it can seem ending your life is easier.  If in doubt send your loved one to get the mental health care they need, it is better to be over cautious then planning a funeral.

Ashton Kutcher summed up the important things the best way I have ever heard it explained, sit back and give him your attention for the next 4 and a half minutes.  Then share it with someone who needs it. THIS is what SEXY is.

What “He Said”, How We Interpret Pope Francis on Gays

I find it interesting to watch the interpretations and the perceptions of what he said and what it really meant.

I am speaking specifically about Pope Francis’ announcement.  Here is what he said, “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” Period.

Here is what a friend of mine, who is more to the right, shared on social media following the news

jokerNo actually that is not true

Pope Francis said, “Gay people should be integrated into society instead of ostracized, If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”

Clearly this photo is a distortion of the truth.

So later I saw a post from a friend of mine, who is more to the left.

pope2

No that is not exactly what the Pope said either.  He did not say “Gay is OK”.   Here is what Pope Francis said, “Gay people should be integrated into society instead of ostracized, If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”

Benedict signed a document in 2005 that said, “men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests”. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying “gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.”

This is NOT an open door of acceptance to Gay and Lesbian Lifestyle in the Catholic Church but instead a position of Love, Forgiveness and Non-Judgement.  It’s worth noting that both of these quotes were about Gay Priests not about the LGBT community as a whole.  One assumes Gay Priests because of their vow of celibacy are NOT acting on their Gay lifestyle and instead living a celibate life which would be in line with Catholic Doctrine which says, if you do not act on your LGBT desire then God forgives you.

Let me say as a Lesbian who was in fact raised Catholic and later turned to the Protestant faith before coming out as a Lesbian, I too want to hear the Pope say those words that being Gay is ok.  We are however,  no where near that yet and might not ever be in my life time. But I am grateful for the dialogue Francis has started about simply “Not Judging”… 2 little words that mean so much.

Two little words that if we took them and lived those 2 words in our daily life we could change much of what is wrong in today’s society.  It is a lesson for both the left and the right, STOP JUDGING.

How about this quote, “- Judge not, that ye be not judged”.  – GOD Matthew 7:1-5

or this one

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” –GOD John 13:34

How about we all just live one or both of those?  They came straight from the Big Guy Himself, GOD!

So Don’t Judge Me…

This is simply “My 2 Cents” on the Matter

All Star Game Marc Anthony Controversy- TAKE ACTION

godblessaMERICA

At least once a month the bowels of the nation rise their racists heads and say or do something unfathomable.  The current attack, if you are not aware, is against Marc Anthony singing God Bless America at the All Star Game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsSiqU5cGo4#at=12 Here is the link of the Video

Let me hook you up with a few of the facts first.

Fact 1: Mr. Anthony is a US citizen and was in fact born in the US, New York to be Specific.

84th MLB All-Star Game

Fact 2: Anthony not only is an American citizen but he also participates in charitable support for many charities including a large donation to Children’s Health Fund’s Operation Assist after Hurricane Katrina, and encouraged their fans to give as well.

Fact 3: someone who does not LOVE America is NOT gonna stand up and sing God Bless America

Question 1:  I wonder if these clowns below even know ALL THE WORDS to God Bless america and could sing it themselves?
